Volunteer Opportunities

Our Town, Our Tomorrow - How Do I Help

In challenging Americans to contribute in any way to the public good, John F. Kennedy is famous for the words “ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country.”

In that same vein, we call for volunteers to help the common good in Meridian. Volunteers are an invaluable asset to our community and they play an important role in Our Town, Our Tomorrow, with the goal of improving the quality of life in our small town.

With volunteers, the City and Meridian Parks and Recreation can tap into skills, experiences and talents in addition to what the excellent, professional staff bring to the city and its work. As a part of our commitment to both transparency and to creating opportunities for community investment in our town, Meridian, Texas welcomes volunteers in a variety of roles including activities that directly support our paid city staff, council and mayor.

Besides the actual visible aspect of volunteer work, volunteer activities are valuable in so many other ways, like: help foster community cohesion, intercultural understanding, youth engagement, intergenerational learning and emotional connections.

Additionally, volunteer hours are often a critical component in grant applications, and are therefore tracked. These grants aid our city in receiving funds for various, vital improvements.
